The CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAM provides an introduction to
dance, creative movement, music, and the arts for youngsters
aged 2 to 5. The daily schedule includes a music
class, dance class, and an art project. We use the Creative
Movement Curriculum developed by Audrey Dascomb RDE
created for dance studios, elementary schools, enrichment
centers, and daycares. We are committed to providing
a stimulating, adventurous, unique, and FUN environment
to enhance children’s social, emotional, physical,
and intellectual growth. First and foremost, we
offer a fun introduction to dance, music, and the arts
that nurtures, enhances, and encourages creativity, imagination,
progress and development in EACH child.
The Creative Arts Program is a great precursor to preschool
that uses a holistic approach. That is, the curriculum
fully engages all aspects of the learner (mind, body,
and spirit) which is the whole child paradigm. This synergy
arises from the practical and thinking and imagination
and feeling components all working in harmony.

THE CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAM
Music
We use the licensed Makin’ Music Rockin’ Rhythms®
program. Makin’ Music’s 12 CDS have
won more awards than any other national music programs.
They have won two prestigious Parent’s Choice Awards,
a NAPPA Parents Award and three Oppenheim Toy Portfolio
Gold Audio Awards as well as Best of Philadelphia “Best
Children’s Music Classes.” The music
features a mix of folk, pop, original, traditional, and
world music.
Dance
We use the syllabus Creative Movement Curriculum©
created by Audrey Dascomb, Registered Dance Educator -
Director of Dance Expressions Unlimited. The recently
published curriculum was developed in 1989 and has been
used ever since in dance studios, daycares, enrichment
centers, and public and private schools. The curriculum
units include Body Awareness, Locomotion & Axial Movement,
Space, Time, and Energy along with unique movement activities
and hundreds of musical selections. The popular
curriculum is a favorite among area daycares and Dance
Expressions Unlimited.
Art
The art projects presented in the CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAM
(CAP) are theme-based. Typically students will take
home a project daily (unless it is a two day project or
it needs to dry, etc.). Like our predecessor
program (Toddler Town), the CAP will coordinate the arts
and crafts to focus on similar themes as the music and
dance lessons.
FAQ’s
Why choose an art based program for
your child? According to Living the Arts through
Language & Learning: A Report on Community-based Youth
Organizations, Shirley Brice Heath, Stanford University
and Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching,
Americans for the Arts Monograph, November 1998, young
people who participate in the arts( for at least three
hours on three days each week through a full year) are:
-
4 times more likely to be recognized
for academic achievement
- 3 times more likley to be elected to class office within their schools
- 4 times more likely to participate in a math and science fair
- 3 times more likely to win an award for school attendance
- 4 times more likely to win an award for writing an essay or poem
Young dancers and artists, as compared with their peers,
are likely to:
- Attend music, dance, and art classes nearly three
times as frequently
- Participate in youth groups nearly four times as frequently
- Read for pleasure nearly twice as often
- Perform community service more than four times as
often
The Creative Arts Program is a great precursor to preschool that uses
a holistic approach. That is, the curriculum fully engages all aspects
of the learner (mind, body, and spirit) which is the whole child paradigm.
This synergy arises from the practical and thinking and imagination and
feeling components all working in harmony.
Why CAP and not a pre-school or a
daycare?
Our program meets the needs of children between
2 and 5 - socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically.
This program is a terrific introduction to the arts while
being a stimulating and nurturing environment for each
child. The arts provide numerous benefits for children
which will ultimately enhance their academic growth and
prepare them for the future (see the flyer - Benefits
of Music & Dance).
Do the parents stay with the children
for the class?
No, the CAP is a drop off program. Children
learn to become independent, participate, share, and create
by themselves.
Does the CAP last throughout the year?
Yes, the program continues throughout the school
year and we have summer sessions as well. Most children
continue throughout the year once registered.
Does my child need to be potty trained?
No. We encourage all potty-trained students
to use the facilities and often-times this motivates those
who aren’t potty trained.
Does the program fill up? Will
there be a space for me? What is the student:teacher
ratio?
Our popular programs fill up. Classes are
small to ensure personal attention with 2-3 teachers per
14 students per session. We recommend registering
as soon as you think your child is ready as we often have
waiting lists.
How do I know if my child is ready
for CAP?
Children that have successfully been left with
babysitters are generally ready. Also, children
who are outgoing and used to separating from parents (at
the gym, at playgroup, etc.) should be ready. We
highly recommend that students be left with a sitter (other
than a family member) before enrolling in the program
as this is usually the first structured class without
a parent. Although there is often separation anxiety,
we will let you know after the first class if the child
is ready for the program.
